College Basketball Odds: Duke Takes No. 1 Ranking into ACC Clash

The Duke Blue Devils bounced back from last week's upset loss at North Carolina State to take over the top spot in the polls.

The ACC rivals look to prove they are back this Saturday to continue their win over Maryland. Can the nation's best team match college basketball's odds?

Led by Mason Plumlee and Seth Curry, the Blue Devils emerged as the winning team in the NCAA. They are one of a number of elite programs aiming for a March Madness future, but Duke has high expectations to live up to.

Those hopes could be tested against a lowly Maryland Terrapins team that has seen an up-and-down 2012-13 campaign thus far. After opening the season with a blowout loss to Kentucky and then going on a 13-game winning streak, the Terrapins have lost three of their last four games.

But that lone win came against the same North Carolina State team that beat Duke four days earlier.

While no one is labeling Maryland against Duke when the two teams collide in college basketball on Saturday, it's important not to overlook the threat posed by the unranked Terrapins.

While Duke's success this season has been well-documented, last week's mistakes against North Carolina State reminded fans that they weren't in vain. While they have the best chance to win March Madness, success is far from certain.

Before Saturday's game, the Terrapins managed to beat the Huskies four days after the Blue Devils fell to North Carolina State. Does that mean Duke and Maryland are more evenly matched than the odds give them credit for?
